JW Home Care responded to a water damage project in Oxnard after a slab leak caused widespread water damage throughout the home.
As moisture migrated beneath the flooring and into surrounding structural materials, multiple areas of the home were affected, including the kitchen. To as planned access trapped moisture and begin the drying process, some of the kitchen cabinets had to be removed. Hidden slab leaks like these often require extensive moisture detection and targeted mitigation to prevent further damage.
Inspecting the Extent of the Slab Leak Damage
Once we arrived, our team performed a moisture inspection to determine how far the water had traveled. Slab leaks often allow moisture to migrate beneath flooring systems, into walls, and underneath cabinetry before homeowners become aware of the problem.
Using moisture detection equipment, we evaluated the affected flooring, kitchen, walls, and surrounding structural materials throughout the home. This inspection allowed us to identify hidden moisture and develop a restoration plan based on the full extent of the water damage.
Removing Kitchen Cabinets and Beginning Structural Drying
After identifying the affected areas, our team removed the necessary kitchen cabinets to expose trapped moisture that could not be accessed otherwise. Removing cabinets where necessary allowed us to as planned dry the building materials behind and beneath them, helping prevent moisture from remaining hidden inside the structure.
Professional air movers and dehumidification equipment were then installed throughout the affected areas to promote structural drying. Throughout the mitigation process, moisture levels were monitored to help ensure the home was drying effectively before repairs could begin.
What This Project Shows
The kitchen cabinets limited access to moisture from the slab leak. Selected cabinet removal was a documented part of exposing the affected area for drying.
