JW Home Care responded to a water damage project in Ventura after a second-story washing machine overflowed and allowed water to spread throughout the home.
What started as a laundry room issue quickly affected multiple areas below, including the garage ceiling. As the water moved through the floor system, it spread into surrounding building materials, creating hidden moisture concerns and visible damage that required immediate attention.
Inspecting the Water Damage Throughout the Home
Once we arrived, our team performed a moisture inspection to determine how far the water had traveled. Water losses from second-story laundry rooms often affect much more than the room where the overflow occurred because moisture can migrate through subfloors, wall cavities, insulation, and ceilings.
Using moisture detection equipment, we inspected the laundry room, the affected living spaces below, the garage ceiling, and surrounding structural materials. This inspection allowed us to identify hidden moisture and determine the full extent of the damage.
Removing Damaged Materials and Beginning Structural Drying
After identifying the affected areas, our team removed the necessary damaged materials to access trapped moisture and begin the structural drying process. Professional air movers and dehumidification equipment were installed throughout the affected areas to promote proper drying of the structure.
Removing damaged materials where necessary allowed trapped moisture inside ceiling cavities and wall assemblies to be addressed. Throughout the mitigation process, we monitored moisture levels to help ensure the structure was drying as planned before repairs could begin.
