JW Home Care responded to a water damage project in Santa Barbara after a pinhole leak developed in a refrigerator supply line hidden inside the wall.
Although the leak was small, it continuously released water over time, allowing moisture to spread into surrounding building materials. The prolonged exposure caused water damage and created hidden moisture concerns that required mitigation and structural drying.
Inspecting the Water Damage From the Hidden Refrigerator Leak
Once we arrived, our team performed a moisture inspection to determine how far the water had traveled. Because the refrigerator supply line was located inside the wall, moisture had the opportunity to spread into concealed areas before visible signs of damage appeared.
Using moisture detection equipment, we inspected the affected wall, surrounding materials, and nearby areas for elevated moisture levels. This helped us identify hidden water damage and determine which materials required attention during the restoration process.
Removing Damaged Materials and Beginning Structural Drying
After identifying the affected areas, our team removed the necessary damaged materials to access trapped moisture and allow the structure to dry as planned. Professional air movers and dehumidification equipment were installed to promote drying throughout the affected areas.
Structural drying is especially important after a hidden plumbing leak because moisture can remain inside wall cavities and surrounding materials even after the source of the leak has been repaired. Moisture levels were monitored throughout the process to help confirm that the affected materials were drying as planned.
